Move of the Week 12.24.12

Merry Christmas Everyone!!  Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!  I waited to post this workout until after everyone had a chance to enjoy their celebrations. This will actually be my last “move of the week” and posting of 2012.  I will be on vacation (ya!) this week so will not be able to reach you until January 7th.   It’s been fun for me and hope everyone has enjoyed them much as as I have :). So….here it is…. I’m going with triceps as the main focus for this move of the week…you will need  an elastic tubing which, as …

Day Off??

Do you take a day off from working out?  I hope so!! I am a firm believer that you should let your body rest at least 1 day/week.  I use Saturdays as my day off…I sleep in with my kids, and we spend time as a family the whole day, so I really benefit in more ways than 1 from not scheduling my gym-time on this day. For some people, an off-day is already calculated into their routine, but if not, I suggest that you do this for many reasons… 1.  Your body needs time to repair itself. 2.  You …

Playlist…

I get a lot of feedback on my music in my classes…. I know I’ve said it  before, but music is a strong motivator for me.  I am always looking for new mixes and songs that get me going and that I think will keep my class participants going full steam for an hour too! Here are my top picks these days….make your own playlist from your favorites and add some of these too!! 1.  Daylight–Maroon 5 2.  Little Talks–Of Monsters and Men 3.  Some Nights–FUN 4.  Cry–FloRida 5.  Catch my Breath–Kelly Clarkson 6.  Va va Voom–Nicki Minaj 7.  Ho …

Be Prepared for Vacation…

If you are taking a vacation, are you asking yourself…”Do I also take a vacation from exercise?” The answer should be “not really.”  While vacationing is a way for you to get away from your everyday stress, exercise of some sort should definitely be part of your agenda. To make sure you stay on track while still enjoying yourself, you should plan ahead. 1.  Depending on the length of your trip, pack attire for at least 1-2 workouts. 2.  Pack or wear your “gym” shoes–If you have them (and the clothes), you will be more inclined to use them. 3. …

Move of the Week 12.17.12

So….My son Casey was “sick” today — and by “sick” I mean, he came home from school saying he didn’t feel well, but was full of energy and void of any “sick-related” symptoms.  Therefore, I decided to put him to work and demonstrate my Move of the Week!!  🙂 Start in your push-up position with your weight over your hands, your head in line with your spine, and your abdominal muscles engaged. Pull your right knee into your chest using your core. Extend this leg behind you. Pull that knee back into your chest, and extend it behind you one …

I was fortunate to be asked by Carla Young at www.MOMeomagazine.com to write an article for her.  I came up with 5 Intense Total Body Exercises you can do at home or on the road.  Check it out! Sick?

Not only ’tis the season for Holiday fun, but also ’tis the season for getting sick! It’s everywhere!  Colds, Flu, Virus, Bronchitis, etc…from kids to adults, so many people are unfortunately struggling with something these days! So when this happens…do you/can you workout?? For me, since working out is my job, I rarely skip my workout if I’m sick.  As hard as it is to drag myself to class and bring all my energy and cheer, somehow I always seem to feel better once I get going and after I’m done.  I’m plagued with horrible sinus infections a couple times …

To sit or not to sit….

Wooowww….can’t believe what I just read in Family Circle magazine…”Being sedentary for more than 3 hours a day can decrease your life expectancy by 2 years!”  Seriously!? So what does this mean for us?? Well, first off I’d start paying attention to how much you are finding yourself sitting…is it at home at your desk or on your couch?  Is it at work?  Is it at a coffee house or in your car on your commute?  I guess it all adds up! I don’t think we should freak out about things we can’t control in this arena…if you are at …

Move of the Week 12.10.12

While I’m sure you all are itching to rev your body up with extra exercise to accommodate our Holiday season, I do think it’s important to remember to get in your stretch time. Most of my “move of the week” exercises have included lower and upper body, but I have offered very few stretches for these areas.  Therefore, I am taking this week to emphasize some stretches that will target these areas… Chest and Shoulders: *  Stand in front of a doorway or corner of your house.  Reach your arm in front of you towards the wall/corner and place your …

Hey Runners….

This summer I shared with you my experience with a 4-mile race.  To recap…I hadn’t participated in a race in 8 years.  I currently am only going for a short 3-4 mile run 1 time a week, and the rest of the week I am teaching/doing my classes.  Much to my surprise I ran that race faster than I’ve ever run and came in 2nd in my age group. The other day a woman who has been taking my classes weekly for the past year approached me with her story….On Thanksgiving she decided to run in the “Turkey Trot”–which is a …
