21 Ways to Sneak in “Exercise” During your Routine Day

My “To Do Tuesdays” have been so much fun for me.  I have enjoyed coming up with ways to get more active and productive during the day.  I have been doing all of them myself and hope you have put them into play as well. I wrote an article for MOMeo Magazine that incorporates many of my “To Do Tasks” as well as several new ones! Please take a look at the fun list and share it with your friends and family!! MOMeo Magazine 21 Ways… Thanks!

To Do Tuesday 9.10.13

Welcome to Microwave Madness (or if you don’t have a microwave…Toaster Oven Madness 🙂 ) What are you doing when you are heating up frozen pancakes, steaming vegetables, warming up leftovers???  The time ranges from 30 seconds to probably 4 minutes. While you wait–here are some great ideas that will get you moving.  You can even include your kids because you know how anxious they get waiting!! 30 Seconds-1 Minute: Drop to a plank–Have your kids keep an eye on the timer and count down for you! Push-ups against the counter–Keep a running tally on a notepad in your kitchen …

To Do Tuesday 9.3.13

I finished teaching this morning and had to run to Target to grab a couple of things. I hope I’m not alone when I say “a couple things” almost always turns into WAY MORE when it comes to going to Target!  Oy! As I loaded my car with several bags, most of them quite heavy, my “To Do Tuesday” epiphany came to me! I pulled into my driveway, parked the car, and opened my trunk.  Staring at me were many bags to haul into my house.  I decided to combine the task of “1 item per hand” when cleaning up, …

To Do Tuesday 8.27.13

School is back in session, and so with it comes those long pick up lines to get your children.  I know that in my neighborhood, people line up up to 45 minutes before school is out so they do not have to wait at the end and have their kids be the last to go home. If you are one of these people, think about how that 45 minutes can be spent….sitting in your car texting, talking on phone, emailing, OR….still get your spot, but make use out of the time to be a bit more active. Here are some …

To Do Tuesday 8.20.13

I posted a “Move of the Week” last week that required you to pick up balls and run them into a bin/basket.  I emphasized only putting 1 ball in each hand–holding 2 at a time.  This led me to this week’s “To Do Tuesday.” I know this may seem silly or become annoying, but what if you took this “2 item limit” into your daily activity? I just returned from a week vacation at a family camp.  I have done 10 loads of laundry (and still counting) and have put away endless items that we brought along.  I was lugging …

To Do Tuesday 8.13.13

I think I do at least 2-3 loads of laundry every night.  It seems to be endless in my house!  🙂  The other night I was carrying 1 of 2 baskets up my stairs and realized how much work I was doing lugging that heavy bin of clothes!  Made me think….hmmm…aside from just the loading, unloading, folding and carrying–can I make this chore intentionally a bit more “exercise?” Yep!  Before you put away those neatly folded clothes….do this: Hold the basket in your arms, and bend your arms 90 degrees so you are holding the basket while your biceps are …

To Do Tuesday 8.6.13

Most kids are out of camp this week.  If you are taking off work this week to spend time together and find yourself at the pool.  Try this while you are there… Instead of sitting on your chair and reading a magazine or chatting with the people next to you…. **Walk around the pool at least 10 times every hour. **Swim some laps during “adult safety break”–at my neighborhood pool, this is every 60 minutes **If you need to be in the pool to watch your kids, bounce up and down or run in place–may seem easy, but you’re really …

To Do Tuesday 7.30.13

If we spent as much time moving our bodies as we do texting or emailing on our phones, I think we may just find ourselves exhausted!  Haha! I propose that during this week, each day, you make note of the number of (personal) text messages or emails you send.  For each one–you owe your body some type of exercise:  5 push ups, 5  crunches, 5 squats,  1 minute of jumping  rope. a loop (walking or running) around the block, etc.  Pick a different physical activity/exercise each day and BE HONEST!  Keep a tally (every smart phone has a notepad) of …

To Do Tuesday 7.23.13

On Sunday, I found myself with a little free/me time 🙂  As I pulled into my driveway, I knew what I needed to do.  I stopped short of the garage and parked the car outside.  I went in the house and gathered my vacuum, a bucket, some rags and dish soap.  I was going to wash my car! I started with the inside:  I hooked up an extension cord and attached it to the vacuum and went to work.  Now, if you have kids, you can probably sympathize with the mess I found they created in the car.  Despite the …

To Do Tuesday 7.16.13

It’s Tuesday!  I’m really excited about this one.  You may feel inconvenienced at first, but then you’ll realize what it can add to your day.  Ready??? No More Drive-Thru Yes, I’m serious.  Park your car, and get your children out (such a pain, but think of the lifting and twisting and the benefits of that–hold your core 😉 ), and walk in to the Starbucks and get your coffee, walk into the bank to use the ATM, walk into the dry-cleaner to pick up your clothes.  I know you do 1 or 2 of these almost every day.  You will …
